Five samples. None of them is a client job.

We're new, and we won't pass off someone else's work as ours. Every document on this page is made up: the companies, the people, the numbers. What's real is the method. A first draft goes in, a second linguist reads it against the source, and the changes are marked so you can see them.

Drag the handle on any sample to move between the first draft and the reviewed version.

Safety notice, English to Spanish

  • English → Spanish
  • about 55 words
  • Harbor Street Metalworks

Look forThe draft gets three safety terms wrong and reads like a manual. The reviewed version is what a person at a press actually reads.

PELIGRO: BLOQUEO OBLIGATORIO. Antes de limpiar, despejar un atasco o abrir una guarda en la Línea de Prensa 2, corte la energía y ponga su propio candado y su etiqueta en el interruptor de desconexión. Solo quien puso un candado puede quitarlo. ¿No está seguro? Pregunte a su supervisor antes de tocar la máquina.

Use the left and right arrow keys. Home shows the first draft. End shows the reviewed version.

  • Term: "lockout" is bloqueo, as in bloqueo y etiquetado, not cierre
  • Terms: a machine guard is a guarda, not a guardia (a security guard); "power" is energía, not potencia
  • "The disconnect" is the switch: interruptor de desconexión
  • Tone: shorter, direct commands
Source. DANGER: LOCKOUT REQUIRED. Before you clean, clear a jam or open a guard on Press Line 2, shut off the power and put your own lock and tag on the disconnect. Only the person who put on a lock may take it off. Not sure? Ask your supervisor before you touch the machine.

Use the left and right arrow keys. Home shows the first draft. End shows the reviewed version.

  • Heading: translated as Ceev faj ("be careful"), not left in English
  • Tone letter: tawg (cracked), not taw (foot)
  • Kept in English: grinder and supervisor, the words Hmong crews in US plants use

Hmong is written in RPA, the Romanized Popular Alphabet. Most words end in a tone letter, and words in the mid tone have none. Drop one of those letters and you get a different word.

First draft

After review

Use the left and right arrow keys. Home shows the first draft. End shows the reviewed version.

  • Tone: friendly "ka/mo" in place of stiff "kayo/inyong"
  • Terms kept the way the floor says them: team lead, pallet, dock crew, front desk, shift
  • "Ride along" is sasama, not sasakay
  • Literal lines reworded: "Magtanong ng mga tanong", "pag-alam ng lahat"

What the second read is for

The first linguist translates. The second one doesn’t skim. They read the translation against your source, line by line, and fix what’s off. Mostly it’s small stuff: a unit written the wrong way, a term that changed halfway down the page, a sentence that’s correct and still sounds stiff. A review chip marks each change.

What it doesn’t do: add things you didn’t write, or check that your original is right. We translate what you send.

How the whole review works
